Zach Arnett New Job

Zach Arnett Fired by Mississippi State: Where Could He Land Next?

Mississippi State Needs a New Coach

Mississippi State fired coach Zach Arnett on Monday with a 4-6 record in his first season as head coach. The Bulldogs have struggled on both sides of the ball, ranking near the bottom of the SEC in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Arnett's firing comes as no surprise, as he was widely considered to be overmatched for the job.

Why Zach Arnett Could Be a Fit for USC's Next Defensive Coordinator

One possible landing spot for Arnett is USC. The Trojans are in need of a new defensive coordinator after firing Alex Grinch earlier this season. Arnett has a history of success as a defensive coordinator, having helped Mississippi State to a top-10 defense in 2021. He is also familiar with the Pac-12, having spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at San Diego State.

Other Potential Landing Spots for Zach Arnett

If Arnett does not end up at USC, there are a number of other programs that could be interested in his services. These include:

  • Vanderbilt: The Commodores are in the midst of a coaching search after firing Clark Lea. Arnett would be a good fit for Vanderbilt, as he has experience coaching in the SEC and has a history of success as a defensive coordinator.
  • Texas Tech: The Red Raiders are also in need of a new defensive coordinator after firing Tim DeRuyter. Arnett would be a good fit for Texas Tech, as he is a young and up-and-coming coach who has a history of success.
  • Arizona State: The Sun Devils are in need of a new defensive coordinator after firing Antonio Pierce. Arnett would be a good fit for Arizona State, as he is a young and up-and-coming coach who has a history of success.
