Mississippi State Head Coach Fired

Zach Arnett Out After One Season

Arnett was fired after just one season as head coach of Mississippi State. The Bulldogs finished the season with a 6-7 record, including a 3-5 mark in SEC play.

Arnett was hired in December 2021 after serving as the defensive coordinator at Ole Miss. He was the first head coach at Mississippi State since 1974 to be fired after just one season.

Sources told 247Sports earlier this month that Arnett was on the hot seat after a disappointing season. The Bulldogs lost their last three games of the season, including a 24-22 loss to rival Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl.

Arnett's firing comes as a surprise to many, as he was considered to be a rising star in the coaching ranks. He was the highest-paid coordinator in the SEC and was considered a potential candidate for several head coaching jobs.

Mississippi State is now searching for its fourth head coach in the past five years. The Bulldogs have not won an SEC championship since 1941 and have not won a bowl game since 2018.
